2019 Nov 18 Sew-in Minutes

BRQG November 18, 2019, Sew-In

The Big Red Quilt Guild met November 18, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at Beechwood Reformed Church for a Sew-In. Kris Kennedy, vice president, called the meeting to order. One guest was introduced. The group remembered Vicky Gray, a founding member of BRQG who passed away on November 7, 2019, with a moment of silent reflection.

Barb Bredemeier gave instructions for going through the finger-food buffet, and we all enjoyed a delicious selection of appetizers and desserts brought by BRQG members.

Kris reminded us that there will be no meeting in December. January is a Sew-In at the Beechwood Lodge. February we will be viewing and discussing a video on designing quilt borders. March’s meeting will feature best quilting tools and gadgets.

Several members had brought their Block of the Every-Other-Month Challenge and displayed them on a table. Nora Slikkers won the raffle drawing for this month’s prize for participants: a packet of fabric.

Kathy Ryzenga talked about the Linus Project and had information sheets with sizes for Linus Project charity quilts.

Jackie Bailey then gave instructions for our evening project, a wool applique cover for a small notebook. Jackie had made kits for three different cover designs, and members proceeded to work on this project for our activity event. Many thanks to Jackie and her helpers for all the work that went into making up these kits.

Near the end of the meeting, we had Show and Tell. The raffle quilt for Tulip Time 2020 was displayed, and nine other projects created by members were shown to the group.

The meeting ended at 8:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Barb Bredemeier, president, made several announcements at the beginning of the meeting: she encouraged members to sign up for the February workshop on tiled background and to sign up to bring refreshments for the February meeting. Two guests were introduced—Sara Briggs and Isolda Anderson.
Members present—26 plus 2 guests.
Then we began work in our groups. Each person present learned to create two different folded fabric ornaments from instructions and fabric provided by several table leaders.
