May 22 Sew-In

On Monday May 22 about twenty BRQG members gathered for a Sew-In at Beechwood Reformed Lodge.

Pat Navis reported that BRQG members have donated 40 quilts to the Holland Police Department and 10 have been distributed.  Both the police and recipients are very appreciative.  Pat asked for names of additional organizations that might benefit from donations of quilts.  Members will vote at the June meeting on which organization to adopt in addition to the Holland Police Department.

Kathy Mueller showed the Wagon Wheel quilt that will be taught by Sandy Klop on Tuesday June 27, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Sandy will be the guest lecturer for the general meeting to be held on Monday June 26 at 7:00 pm.

Sue Fabiano has mastered the Appliquick technique for preparing hand applique shapes.  She kindly shared her knowledge with those who were interested in learning.

Betsy Muir is looking for Carolyn Friedlander Botanics fabric.  Please contact her if you have any leads (847-507-4305).

Next general meeting June 26.

February Sew-in Meeting Minutes

Several members and guests gathered at Beechwood Reformed Church Lodge for an informal gathering of sharing and learning.  Gorgeous finished UFO’s were shown and admired.

Barb Briedemeier served as instructor for an Iris Folding project that was something simple enough to teach young grandchildren when done with paper, or detailed and precise when done with fabric and sewing machine.  The surprise was that the “Iris” was the iris of an eye (the center of the design) rather than the flower.  Everyone went home with a beautiful completed note card and resources for other designs.

Barb also told about the Ultimate Guild Challenge for AQS summer 2018 which Big Red Quilt Guild members are encouraged to participate in.    The cost is $5 and the theme is Blooming Butterflies.  Details are available on our website.

The April bus trip to Chicago has been cancelled due low enrollment.

Several Charity Quilts were available for quilting (the tops are completed).

Kathy Mueller, Program Chair, reported there is room for a few more people to participate in the Frieda Anderson class to be held March 27, 2017.  Go to the website for sign up information and details or call Kathy if you have questions (616-399-4685).

Next Meeting:  March 27 2017

Frieda Anderson class at the lodge 9:00 am.
General meeting and Frieda Anderson presentation at the church 7:00 with                             refreshments available at 6:30 pm.
